The cool toys for Fire Emblem Universe! Fire Emblem Universe has 19 repositories available. Follow their code on GitHub. The Tutorial (Japanese: チュートリアル Tutorial) is an optional chapter in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade which, as its name suggests, serves as a tutorial for basic game mechanics. As such, there are frequent interjections from Cecilia to explain everything.
How to Hack GBA Fire Emblem?
So to give this a little context, I'm a graphic design student. In school, our final for this term is to create a fan character for a game series and to show the design process, ending in having the character actually 'in' the game (create some fake screenshots or whatever). I choose Fire Emblem (more specifically the Elibe games) because I've been playing FE7 (which I beat for my first time recently!) and FE6 (which I'm currently playing).
Part of the project is to make rough sketches, and eventually evolve them into something that looks like the character's finalized, in game, appearance. So, because of this, I decided to take the characters I created and made sprites for them by recycling parts from other sprites. I've been having so much fun creating a back story and art for the game, that I decided that I want to try and make it into a real game (provided I have enough free time).
That's where this subreddit comes in (I noticed there was also a Fire Emblem ROM Hacking subreddit, but I thought it might be appropriate to post here first). I was hoping someone could point me into the right direction of how to create a ROM hack for the GBA Fire Emblem games. I don't have the faintest idea what programs to get and everything, so if you could start from scratch that'd be great. I have very, very little experience changing sprites in Pokémon ROMs, if that is similar in any way. Anyway, I thank you for your help!
If you're curious about the game I want to make, or the sprites I've created, I'll show them off here.
The main theme of my game is something I haven't really seen in my limited Fire Emblem playing experience (I've only played Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Path to Radiance, and Awakening, and I've only beaten two of them). I call it 'Professional Loss vs. Personal Loss'. Examples include 'Is it okay to sacrifice the lives of many to save the life of a loved one?', and 'Should personal feelings influence the tactics of an army?' These big questions will also pose as crucial choices the player must make, leading to very big changes, such as losing a portion of your army, changing the victor in war, or losing a player's units.
The characters I have created so far are named Elek and Elliott (maintaining the 'El' naming trope). They are brothers, and the grandchildren of Roy. Roy is still alive in their time, though he is very old. The children's parents are dead, so Roy takes the role as their parental figure. He tragically dies to the main antagonist nearing the beginning of the game. I plan on having them (along side two others, maybe even more) being the Lords of the game, playing the same 'multiple lords' card other Fire Emblem games have used (Elek is the main lord, just like how Eliwood/Hector was in FE7). They will also act as plot points, being the center of some of the major choices in the game.
Here are the sprites I have created so far. I'd love to hear your comments on them, and any criticism you can give is appreciated (especially if you can give me tips to make the sprites better).

Honestly I don't know if I will actually make this into a game. It would be really cool, but I'm lazy and already busy as a college student. Plus I know that even making a fan game using a pre-existing game engine is exhausting and takes a LOT of time. Even so, making even one level to show my teacher would be nice, and should help net me an A, so I'd love to do it. Thank you to anyone who decides to respond and/or help me in any way. I appreciate it!
TL:DR, I'm thinking of making a fan GBA Fire Emblem game and would like to know how to do it.
